Shock - induced temperatures of MgO Bob
نویسنده
چکیده
Shock-compressed MgO radiates thermally at temperatures between 2900 and 3700 K in the 170-200 GPa pressure range. A simple energy-transport model of the shocked-MgO-targets distinguishes between different shock-induced radiation sources in these targets and provides estimates of spectral absorption-coefficients, ahM for shocked MgO (e.g. at 203 GPa, a h M g O 630, 7500, 4200 and 3800 m-’, a t 450,600,750 and 900 nm, respectively). The experimentally infeired temperatures of the shock-compressed states of MgO are consistent with temperatures calculated for MgO assuming that (1) it deforms as an elastic fluid, (2) has a DulongPetit value for specific heat at constant volume in its shocked state, and (3) undergoes n o phase transformation below 200 GPa.

Shock temperature measurements via optical pyrometry are being conducted on <100> single-crystal MgO preheated beftire compression to 1905-1924 K. Planar shocks were generated by impacting hot Mo(driver plate)-MgO targets with Mo or Ta flyers launched by the Caltech two-stage light-gas gun up to 6.6 km/s. Quasi-brightness temperature was measured with 2-3% uncertainty by a 6-channel optical pyr...

Magnesium oxide (MgO) is a significant component of planetary interiors, particularly Earth’smantle and other rocky planets within and beyond our solar system; thus its high-pressure, high-temperature behavior is important to understanding the thermochemical evolution of planets. Laser-heated diamond-anvil cell (DAC) experiments on (Mg,Fe)O ferropericlase up to ~40GPa show that previous DAC exp...

Methylglyoxal (MGO) is an α-dicarbonyl compound present ubiquitously in the human body. MGO reacts with arginine residues in proteins and forms adducts such as hydroimidazolone and argpyrimidine in vivo. Previously, we showed that MGO-mediated modification of αA-crystallin increased its chaperone function. We identified MGO-modified arginine residues in αA-crystallin and found that replacing su...

BACKGROUND Increased production and accumulation of methylglyoxal (MGO), as well as increased modification of proteins by glycoxidation, are hallmarks of aging and diabetes. MGO was shown to modify proteins and to contribute to the accumulation of damaged proteins that can be toxic to cells. However, the effect of MGO on the cell systems responsible for repairing or degrading damaged proteins i...
